April 2012
Dear ORCAS: I hope you are enjoying a restful Easter. Go ahead and have seconds of everything – swimming starts again April 3rdand you can burn it all off in the first practice! Club Swimsuits Gentle reminder – the order for Swimsuits will be placed April 8th so that they will be here for the Nationals in May. Please advise cococomtois@gmail.com of the size and style that you want. Canadian Masters Swimming Championships (May 17 – 20) David Letterman is a keen swimmer, and his top five reasons for attending the CMSC are the following: 5. It is located in Nepean this year, it will never be closer.4. The atmosphere and the social events when 950 fit, motivated swimmers meet … are unbeatable! 3. While billed as a “Championship”, there are no qualifying times, so you are actually only competing against yourself and your own times. 2. Snacking all day is encouraged, there are professional massages available. 1. This is your chance to show off your new ORCA swimsuit. Contact Anne-Marie to register, more details at http://www.cmsc2013.ca/ NB: Even if you don’t want to compete, you can still volunteer. Pub night Stay hydrated by joining the rest of the pod at the Royal Oak on April 10thafter practice! Club Clothing T-Shirts, Henleys and Hoodies are available with the colourful ORCA logo. Please send clothing orders to cococomtois@gmail.com before May 1st. Annual General Meeting The AGM will be held June 1st, after practice in the meeting room beside the pool coordinator's office. We will be electing a new Executive (President, Social Convenor, Secretary and Meet Coordinator). Light refreshments will be available. Finally, a message from ORCA wetsuits, who now offer the Orca 3.8 model, justin time for April, with a built-in anti-gravity feature: |
March 2013
Dear Orcas: Tori, Patricia Isabelle, Tammy and Lindsay all swam very well at the TechnoSport fun meet on 03 March. Improved technique and increased speeds all around. Bravo Zulu, ladies! Late-breaking news: The Downtown Swim Club (Toronto) are hosting an event on April 20th in the 50 m pool at the U of T. Deadline to register is Monday the 5th! Coaches' corner: Replacement clips for snorkels are in, please see the His-bark-is-worse-than-his-bite Coach. Michael Phelps tribute breakfast: Saturday the 9th of March, join your fellow swimmers after practie at Cora's at 1971 St. Joseph Blvd. (For the record ... the 'Breakfast of Champions' includes three fried egg sandwiches with cheese, tomatoes, fried onions and mayo; a five egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast and three pancakes with chocolate chips. The total calorie weigh-in: 4,000 calories, or roughly twice what a normal man should eat all day.) umm ummm good! Sure sign of Spring department: Starting the March 9th practice, there will be a triathlon lane. Long-term planning: 1. This year the National championships are being held in the Nepean Sportsplex. There are no qualifiying times required, registration is at this address: even if you don't plan to swim, volunteer to help with timing, marshaling or whatever the host club (Nepean) may need. See Anne-Marie. 2. You should also consider the 7th annual Bushtukah Bring on the Bay 3k Open Water Swim, which will be held on July 13, 2013. This is a very well-organised and fun event, last year there were four Orcas who enjoyed the beautiful course and sumptuous buffet: To register online and for more information please visit www.bringonthebay.com . ![]() |
